Meet Rebecca Tanguay, LICSW

Founder of Life's A Journey Counseling

Rebecca is currently not accepting new clients. She is focused on growing Life's A Journey Counseling by mentoring clinicians, expanding services, and ensuring more individuals and families have access to compassionate, high-quality mental health care.

Growing up, I always knew two things: I wanted to help people, and I wanted to build something of my own. Social work became the perfect intersection of those passions.

After earning my bachelor's degree in Management and Sociology, I quickly realized that the traditional corporate path wasn't where I belonged. My journey led me to New York City, where graduate school challenged me academically, professionally, and personally. Those experiences shaped not only the clinician I would become, but the person I am today. They taught me that everyone's story is different, pain isn't something to compare, and healing begins when people feel seen and understood.

I am independently licensed as a clinical social worker in both Massachusetts and Rhode Island. Since beginning my clinical career in 2011, I have worked throughout the South Coast of Massachusetts with children, adolescents, adults, and families experiencing trauma, anxiety, depression, relationship concerns, parenting challenges, identity exploration, women's health issues, sexual health concerns, substance use, behavioral addictions, and the everyday stressors that life inevitably brings.

Early in my career, one lesson has stayed with me: to truly help someone, you must understand the community they live in. Learning about local resources, barriers, and systems became just as important as learning clinical interventions. That belief continues to guide both my work and the mission of Life's A Journey Counseling.

Throughout my career, I worked in a variety of agencies and leadership roles. While I gained invaluable experience, I also recognized something was missing. I envisioned a workplace where clinicians felt genuinely supported, mentorship was valued, collaboration was encouraged, and clients came first—not productivity quotas.

That vision became Life's A Journey Counseling, LLC, founded in 2018.

Like many small businesses, the journey wasn't linear. During the COVID-19 pandemic, I continued serving clients while building the practice from my basement office. There were setbacks, difficult decisions, and moments that required tremendous resilience, but every challenge reinforced why this work matters.

In 2023, I stepped away from private practice to lead an outpatient program at an established community agency. Although that chapter was brief, it reaffirmed the kind of culture I wanted to create—one built on integrity, support, collaboration, and compassion.

Then, in October 2024, a supervisee placed her trust in me and joined me in building something bigger than either of us could accomplish alone.

A group practice was born.

Today, Life's A Journey Counseling has grown into a team of dedicated clinicians, each bringing unique experiences, strengths, and perspectives to the work we do. While our stories are different, we share the same commitment: providing affirming, compassionate, evidence-based care where clients feel safe to heal, grow, and discover their own resilience.

As Founder and Visionary Clinical Director, my passion has evolved beyond seeing clients individually. I am committed to developing clinicians, expanding access to quality mental health services, and creating an organization where both clients and providers can thrive.

Life is full of unexpected turns. Some chapters are painful, others are transformative—but every experience becomes part of the journey.

At Life's A Journey Counseling, we believe you don't have to have everything figured out before asking for help.

Come As You Are. Take on the Adventure. Be Well.
