Our Clinicians

Rebecca Tanguay, LICSW (She/Her)

Founder, Visionary Clinical Director

Rebecca Tanguay is currently not taking on any new clients.  She is working diligently to hire more clinicians to bring on to LAJC to follow our mission!

My name is Rebecca Tanguay, LICSW (she/her/hers). Growing up, I knew that working with communities in need was my purpose in life.

I’m an independently licensed clinical social worker based in the South Coast of Massachusetts.

My 14 years of clinical experience ranges in working with children, tweens, adolescents, and adults in areas of trauma, parenting, sexual health, women’s health, healthy relationships, sexuality, identity, behavioral and chemical addictions along with other life pressures.

In 2018, I created Life’s A Journey Counseling, LLC.

My vision is to build a comprehensive organization with multiple services which promote the mission that LAJC stands for.

  • Upon returning home to the Rhode Island/ Massachusetts area in 2012, I realized that I needed to immerse myself more deeply into the initiatives in which I am passionate about and stand as an ally. I needed to interact with individuals on a deeper level while also advocating for those who have otherwise been ignored, forgotten, and neglected in an industry that was systematically built against them.

Beginning in 2015, I expanded my clinical experience with providing therapeutic services to the transgender community. I began developing the unique knowledge and providing space for clients to express who they truly are. I have expertise in working with the transgender community and prioritize working with these individuals.

  • Come as you are! I am expressive, interactive, and willing to listen. (And, I swear!)

  • I work with the individual client. I am the student and you are the teacher of your life. We guide, learn, adapt, and work together to accomplish the goals we set out for in treatment.

Charlie Perkins, MS, LSW (She/Her)

Master's Level Clinician

Charlie Perkins, MS, LSW
Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday- 5 PM – 8 PM

May - June 2026: Tuesday, Friday, Sunday evenings

I am Charlie Perkins and I’m passionate about fostering genuine connections and creating a supportive space where healing can truly take root.

I believe that meaningful growth begins with authenticity, empathy, and shared understanding, and I strive to meet each client exactly where they are.

I bring both structure and flexibility to the therapeutic process, creating a safe space where clients feel heard, supported, and encouraged to explore at their own pace.

My goal is to balance empathy and insight — offering both understanding and gentle challenges that promote growth and self-awareness.

I value honesty, humor, and authenticity, and I aim to create a space where clients feel safe to show up fully as themselves.

  • My path into this work has been both professional and deeply personal. I’ve always been drawn to understanding people — how we heal, connect, and grow through life’s challenges. My experiences have taught me that healing begins in safe, authentic spaces where we can be fully seen and accepted for who we are. As a member of the LGBTQ+ community, my own journey has included navigating experiences of prejudice, misunderstanding, and the ongoing pursuit of self-acceptance. These challenges have shaped not only my resilience but also my commitment to advocacy and creating spaces of belonging. I bring this awareness into my work — ensuring that each client, regardless of identity or background, feels valued, affirmed, and safe.

  • I work with individuals and couples who are ready to create meaningful change in their lives but may feel stuck, overwhelmed, or uncertain about where to begin. I will assisting you in navigating relationship challenges, grief, life transitions, or the lasting effects of trauma. I also support those who are exploring their identities, managing anxiety or depression, or seeking greater emotional balance and self-understanding.

My goal is to walk beside you as you move toward clarity, confidence, and peace. Together, we’ll work to uncover your strengths, nurture resilience, and build the tools you need to move forward with intention and self-trust.

  • My approach to therapy is integrative and compassionate, meaning I draw from different methods to fit each person’s unique needs and goals. I believe healing happens when therapy feels safe, collaborative, and centered on your strengths.

I work from a trauma-informed and holistic foundation, helping clients build emotional awareness, develop coping skills, and reconnect with themselves in authentic ways. I often use tools from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) to support balance between thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. I also incorporate Person-Centered Therapy and Mindfulness-Based practices, which focus on empathy, acceptance, and present-moment awareness.

When supporting couples, I use Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) and Gottman-informed approaches to strengthen communication, rebuild trust, and nurture emotional connection.
